Muvamo Opinion

If you’re looking for a peaceful spot, Am Himmel is a fantastic place to visit. It’s a little outside the city center, so it stays quiet and relaxed, making it a favorite among locals. The mix of open green spaces, and scenic walking trails, makes it a great escape from the city.

One of the highlights here is the Tree of Life Circle (Baumkreis). This unique installation consists of 40 trees, each representing a Celtic zodiac sign. Informational plaques explain their meanings, so visitors can find the tree connected to their birth date. The peaceful surroundings create a calming and relaxed atmosphere. One unique feature that adds to the experience is the speakers placed around the Tree of Life Circle. The speakers at the Tree of Life Circle are generally active every day. However, on weekends and public holidays, they play classical music or soft melodies that enhance the peaceful atmosphere. On regular weekdays, you may hear nature sounds or quiet background music, keeping the area a relaxing place to unwind and enjoy.

Several walking trails lead through the Vienna Woods and surrounding vineyards. Some are short and easy, while others take you deeper into nature.

A small but special feature of Am Himmel is the Sisi Chapel (Sisi-Kapelle), a charming church dedicated to Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi). Hidden among the trees, it’s a quiet place for reflection and adds to the peaceful atmosphere of the area.

If you’re looking for a place to eat or have a drink while visiting Am Himmel, there are two good options nearby. Oktogon Am Himmel offers a bright glass pavilion setting where you can enjoy brunch, lunch, or coffee and cake, but its opening hours change depending on the season, so it’s best to check in advance. Rondell Café at Cobenzl, just a 15-minute walk away, serves Austrian classics and homemade cakes on a terrace with one of the best panoramic views over Vienna. Be sure to reserve your table here.

The combination of nature, and history makes it a perfect spot to relax and unwind. Am Himmel is more about the peaceful atmosphere and connection to nature rather than a dramatic viewpoint. For panoramic views over Vienna, we recommend to visit Cobenzl, Leopoldsberg, or Kahlenberg.
