LAMÉE Rooftop – Design, History, and a View to Remember
Named after Austrian-born Hollywood actress Hedy Lamarr (born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler), Hotel LAMÉE was designed as a tribute to 1930s glamour and modern Viennese sophistication. Hedy Lamarr was also a pioneering inventor, which fits the hotel’s theme of intelligence wrapped in beauty. The hotel opened in 2012 as part of the LENIKUS group’s boutique collection, which focuses on revitalizing Vienna’s inner-city buildings with bold, design-led concepts.
The building itself dates back to the early 20th century and sits in one of Vienna’s most prestigious neighborhoods, just steps from Stephansplatz. When the rooftop was introduced, it became a standalone destination almost immediately. Its draw? A nearly unobstructed view of St. Stephen’s Cathedral that feels surprisingly intimate, and an ambiance that brought something fresh to the Viennese rooftop scene.

The rooftop space was created to embody the spirit of the hotel: urban elegance with a touch of playfulness.
Unlike many rooftop venues that lean into flash and spectacle, LAMÉE Rooftop took a more curated approach. It never aimed to be the loudest place in town, just one of the most stylish. That restraint is part of its charm.
Over the years, it has cemented its reputation as one of the top rooftops in Vienna for sunset drinks, chic date nights, and those golden-hour moments that deserve to be remembered. Open year-round thanks to weather-adapted design, LAMÉE Rooftop remains a favorite for its refined style, intimate scale, and sweeping views.
LAMÉE Rooftop reflects a mix of Vienna’s historical charm and contemporary design.
