The Story Behind Figlmüller Bäckerstraße
The original Figlmüller opened in 1905 on Wollzeile, started by Johann Figlmüller with the goal of creating Vienna’s best schnitzel. Over time, it became so popular that a second location on Bäckerstraße was added to meet demand. Located on Bäckerstraße, this branch is a modern continuation of the Figlmüller legacy, offering a refined take on Austria’s most famous dish – the Wiener Schnitzel.
The Figlmüller family originally opened their first establishment near St. Stephen’s Cathedral, quickly gaining a reputation for serving high-quality, generously portioned schnitzels. Their signature pork schnitzel, known for its extraordinary size and delicate crispiness, became a staple of Vienna’s culinary identity.

Figlmüller’s schnitzel differs from the traditional veal Wiener Schnitzel because it’s made with pork, a more affordable and widely enjoyed option.
Figlmüller has become a symbol of Vienna’s culinary tradition, drawing locals and tourists alike to experience a schnitzel perfected over generations. At both the original Wollzeile location and the Bäckerstraße branch, guests can enjoy a meticulously crafted schnitzel made with high-quality ingredients and traditional techniques.
