Muvamo Opinion

Brunch in Vienna is always a good idea, especially when you find a spot that combines great food with a unique atmosphere. That’s exactly what made Café Friedlich such a great find. Located inside the iconic Hundertwasserhaus, the café has an artsy, laid-back vibe that fits perfectly with its surroundings. The mix of indoor and outdoor seating gave us the choice between a cozy, colorful space or a seat outside to soak in the atmosphere.

We decided to go for brunch, and the menu had a great selection of both healthy and indulgent options.

Beyond the food, what stood out was the calm and unhurried atmosphere. While the area around Hundertwasserhaus is always buzzing with visitors, the café felt like a peaceful retreat where we could actually take our time and enjoy the meal.

Our Little Extras

Café Friedlich – A Café Inspired by Creativity and Quality

Café Friedlich is deeply connected to its extraordinary location inside Hundertwasserhaus, one of Vienna’s most iconic landmarks. Designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the building is a bold rejection of straight lines and uniformity, featuring irregular floors, curved walls, and an abundance of greenery. Hundertwasser believed in architecture that harmonized with nature, and his vision turned this apartment complex into a living, breathing work of art.

Located within this architectural wonder, Café Friedlich carries forward the spirit of Hundertwasser’s philosophy. While the café itself is not designed by the artist, it subtly reflects his aesthetic, with warm colors, organic forms, and a cozy, almost surreal atmosphere. Over the years, it has become a favorite spot for those seeking a quiet escape from the bustling crowds of tourists exploring the exterior of Hundertwasserhaus.

Since its opening, Café Friedlich remains a hidden gem, overshadowed by the famous building but beloved by those who take the time to step inside. Unlike the larger, more famous cafés in the city center, this place has a local charm and a relaxed, intimate vibe that makes it feel like a secret discovery.

Beyond its role as a café, it also acts as a small cultural space. You might find art prints, books, and little design pieces that celebrate Vienna’s artistic heritage. Though it’s not a museum, it embodies the essence of what makes Hundertwasserhaus special: a place where creativity, nature, and everyday life blend seamlessly.
