Ronacher Theater – A Sophisticated Stage for World-Class Musical Theater
Ronacher in Vienna opened in 1872 as the Wiener Stadttheater, designed by Ferdinand Fellner (father and son) for Max Friedländer and Heinrich Laube.
After a destructive fire a few years later, the house was rebuilt and reopened as the Etablissement Ronacher – a concert, ball and variety venue where audiences could dine and smoke at their tables.
Across the 20th century it hosted variety, revues, cabaret, radio and TV productions, later evolving toward popular musical entertainment.
In 1987, the venue was taken over by Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and today it serves primarily as a musical-theatre stage with around 1,000 seats, having presented hits such as Cats, Sister Act and Mary Poppins.
